Wood Hall, Gimme-Me-Bit clash in Major League
CHAPELTON, Clarendon — Leaders Gimme-Me-Bit look to move further away from the chasing pack when they play away to Wood Hall in the Claro/Captain’s Bakery Major League at Turners Oval today.
The beaten midseason finalists are seven points clear of second-placed Spartan Athletic and eight ahead of third-placed Wood Hall, and would be eyeing a win to create some breathing space.
Michael Edwards-coached-Gimme-Me-Bit were convincing 2-0 winners in the corresponding first-round fixture, but Wood Hall, despite their recent loss to Free Town, are showing real signs of growth and could spring a surprise any day.
And with their aim being to return to Confederation football, they are aware that only a win against Gimme-Me-Bit will help their cause.
In the day’s other game, Spartan host York Town at Clarendon College, while Longwood tackle Free Town at Monymusk on Sunday.
Over in the Claro-sponsored Division One, Longville Park moved up to second in Zone Four on eight points following their 1-0 win at Salt River on Thursday, while Cross United (one) and Cockpit (two) stayed bottom after their 2-2 stalemate.
The competition continues at the weekend with seven games.
Today, Bailey and Bailey’s (three) entertain Summerfield (six) at Clarendon College, Rio travel to Bucknor in Zone One, while in Zone Two leaders Springfield (nine) play Banks (four) at Waterwell and Portland Cottage host Mitchell Town.
Tomorrow in Zone Three, Treadlight go up against Cherry Tree at Treadlight and Harlem travel to Comfort, while Salt River and Paisley clash in Zone Four.
Game time is 3:00 pm for Major League and 3:30 pm for Division One.
