J’can duo hoping to carry form into T20
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Jamaica batsman Danza Hyatt says he hopes to transfer his rich form for West Indies ‘A’ last year into the senior team against Pakistan later this month.
The 28-year-old right-hander was last week named in a 13-man West Indies squad to face Pakistan in the only Twenty20 match of the tour.
“I did well for Jamaica and that gave me the confidence to do well when I played for West Indies ‘A’,” Hyatt said.
“When I played for the A Team it definitely felt like a step up from playing for Jamaica, so I know I will have to make the adjustment when I play at the senior level.
“I will carry the same mindset… I will look to be positive and play my natural game and do the things that have helped me to reach this level.”
Last November, Hyatt hit 39 and 72 for West Indies ‘A’ as they swept their two-match T20 series against Pakistan A in Antigua.
He struggled in the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship with 79 runs in five innings but followed up with decent form in the just concluded first class season, managing 413 runs.
Hyatt is joined in the Windies squad by fellow Jamaican Krishmar Santokie, a left-arm seamer who has impressed in the CT20.
The 26-year-old Santokie caught the eyes of selectors with two outstanding seasons for Jamaica in the CT20, taking 10 wickets in 2010 and nine in the 2011 edition, to lead the attack on both occasions.
“My aim is to make the most of the opportunity. I have done well for Jamaica in the Caribbean T20 and I’m looking to take that form into the series against Pakistan,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of making the adjustment to the higher level and I’m confident I have what it takes. I would say I have one foot in the door and now it’s just for me to put the other one in and stay in.”
West Indies will host Pakistan in one T20, five One-Day Internationals and two Tests starting April 21st in St Lucia.
