A Classy Prospect for Fontainbleu Trophy
Class standard bearer Classy Prospect faces a field of 10 in the $786,500 Fontainbleu Trophy Open Allowance feature, as he goes for consecutive wins in the class at Caymanas Park today at 5:15 pm. First post at 12:45 pm.
The race will be the penultimate event on the 10-race card for three-year-olds and upward over 1,500 metres.
Classy Prospect, who failed to follow up in Graded Stakes company on last, returns to his happy hunting ground not too disadvantaged by the weight allotment and faces old foes. Owned and bred by Francis Barnett, Edison Chai & Louis Lyn, Classy Prospect, running as he likes it from in front in the valuable King’s Plate, beat a good field of competitors over 1,500 metres on February 26. That event included competitive imported mares Priceless Beauty and Below The Waist, and Burst Of Energy before stepping up to Graded Stakes company afterwards.
Prepared for racing by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, the four-year-old dark bay gelding returns to the grade with no ill effects well trained and from a convenient mark of 53.0kg due to the 4.0kg claim of inform apprentice Osive Denegal, the son of Saint Appeal out of Good Prospect (Texas Prospector) looks a cinch for a third win from his last four starts.
The main danger to blunt such a prospect could surface from one of four foreigners. Among them are Classy Prospect’s stablemate New Kingston, Priceless Beauty, Below The Waist and Burst Of Energy. While good runs are expected from all four, especially the Canadian-bred Priceless Beauty and Burst Of Energy, the in and out performer Below The Waist with Aaron Chatrie astride could come into her own, and like a silent heart attack, change all that with a spanking display depending on how she reports to the races.
Not so long ago this five-year-old chestnut mare by Cat Thief out of Halo Halo Halo (Ormsby), trained by Anthony Nunes, scored back-to-back wins over the distance with smart times of 1:32.1 and 1:32.2. Since then her performances have in fact dipped below the waist. Nevertheless, her four runs for the season did show growing signs of getting her act together once more and if that holds true it should not surprise were the daughter of Cat Thief to come calling over her favourite trip.
Another who could try to take a hand in the finish is New Kingston. Stepping up to this grade on last he had very little chance against stablemate Double The Honey, Ministerofjustice and Brash & Sassy over 1,200 metres. But this is an easier pace event and with the distance increased, which he will enjoy, could bring fitness into play and have a say under journeyman jockey Oneil Mullings.
