Jazz Must Be returns to The Summit for second staging
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Vocalist Apryl-Jaye will present the second staging of Island Car Rentals Presents: Jazz Must Be on Thursday, December 4 at The Summit in Kingston.
The two-hour jazz fusion showcase begins at 8:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm, with doors opening at 7:00 pm.
Tickets are being pre-sold only at $5,000 and can be purchased at Music Mart.
This year’s event will be held under the patronage of Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia “Babsy” Grange. Island Car Rentals returns as title sponsor, with support from Tamia Carey, Roots Financial Group and FMA Customs Brokers.
The show follows a polished, concise format: two hours of music anchored by a 15-minute intermission. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, explore the Food Village.
Apryl-Jaye will headline with a mix of jazz, bossa nova and jazz fusion. As in the first staging, a surprise guest performer is expected. Last year’s show featured saxophonist Dean Fraser, who has again contributed to the production with a special arrangement for a tribute segment honouring reggae greats Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Delroy Wilson and John Holt. The programme will also include a tribute to black artists who died in 2025, including Angie Stone and D’Angelo.
The band for the night includes Keneil Delisser on drums, Dale Brown on bass, Gregory Palmer on keyboard, Okiel McIntyre on trumpet and Lamont “Monty” Savory on guitar.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward Hurricane Melissa relief efforts. Patrons are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food or personal care items for an in-kind donation drive at the venue.
