Cashier, shoppers injured in accidental supermarket shooting
THREE shoppers and a cashier are now hospitalised after they were hit by pellets from a security guard’s shotgun in the Hi-Lo Supermarket in Cross Roads, St Andrew.
The incident occurred about 1:40 pm, according to Lorraine Jones, Corporate Communications Manager at Grace Kennedy Limited, of which Hi-Lo is a subsidiary.
“The security guard after doing some shopping was standing in the line at the cashier when the gun accidentally went off and injured the cashier and three other shoppers,” Jones said.
The cashier, 18-year-old Shanique Williams, was hit in the leg; while the shoppers — two females and one man — were hit in the face and arms respectively.
They were all receiving treatment at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
The incident briefly halted operations at the outlet this afternoon.
