JOL CXC Lecture Series Workshop 2011 a success
For the past two weekends, the Jamaica Observer has been hosting their annual CXC Lecture Series Workshops in Kingston and Montego Bay. Students from schools around the island were in attendance, as they were given preparation tips for Math and English Language CSEC examinations in May/June.
The Kingston leg of the workshop got off to a start at approximately 9:00am with examiner Sonia Lee giving the group general tips on the ‘dos and don’ts’ when preparing for an exam. The group was then divided and placed into classes, where they tackled past paper questions, established guidelines on how to approach the questions, and addressed areas of weakness in the various subjects areas.
At about noon, recess interjected and students were provided with lunch from sponsors Mother’s, Freshhh and Pronto Cornmeal Porridge Mix.
Following this, the second round of classes began.
To add a little excitement to the day, students were engaged in a competition in their small group classes. The winner from each class would then play against each other for the grand prize at the end of the day. The females represented, and a young lady from the Campion College copped top math prize, and one from Saint Hugh’s won the prize for English. The prizes included ten thousand Jamaican dollars, a gift basket, a T-Shirt, and bags from sponsors Mother’s and Freshhh.
When asked about her impression of the progamme, Brittany Beckford responded saying “This was a really good thing that they did. It was long, but beneficial, especially English because of how the teacher dealt with the questions.”
