Melbourne FC eye leadership in Claro Senior League
MT SALEM, St James – MELBOURNE FC could take over as the new leaders in the St James Football Association’s Claro Senior League this afternoon with a win over Violet Kickers in their return-round game at the Mt Salem field, starting at 3:30 pm.
Melbourne are on 28 points, two behind leaders Fogo United, with promoted Montego Bay Boys’ Club in third place on 26 points. Little Miami on 25 points are in fourth place, all from 14 games.
The first-round game between both teams had ended on a 0-0 draw but a win for Melbourne today would see them take over as the leaders for the first time this season.
Melbourne, the only unbeaten team left in the competition, are coming off a 1-0 win over last-placed Salt Spring United on Monday at Albion.
Violet Kickers have recovered from a slow start to move to mid table but need to lift their game today if they are to get by Melbourne and move closer to the leaders.
Third-placed Boys’ Club should beat Salt Spring at UDC and if Melbourne fail, Violet Kickers could take over second place in the standings.
Fifth-placed Revelation (22 points) will play away to Mountain Villa at the Wyndham field and will be full of confidence after their 4-0 demolition of Barrett Town on Monday.
In one other game played Monday, Fogo United gave up a 1-0 lead and drew 1-1 with North Gully Ambassadors at the UDC Field.
Alme McFarlane gave Fogo the lead after 47 minutes before Gregory Williams levelled the scores for Gully Ambassadors in the 58th minute.
