“Shirley Willis is back!”

That was the proclamation made on Friday by Thrillers United member Shirley Willis in a telephone interview from her home in Hartford, Connecticut.

There was hardly anything in her voice that would suggest that this was a woman who was lying in a coma for over a month, while her family maintained a constant vigil by her bedside not knowing whether or not she would eventually pull through.

“My voice is just ringing out — it was untouchable. I am coming to Jamaica to tell my gospel friends that God still reigns and He can heal,” was the assurance given by Willis who is billed to perform on the upcoming Gospel In Harmony showcase scheduled to be held at the National Arena on Sunday, May 29.

Reflecting on the June 2008 accident that left her in a coma and battling for life, Willis says she is a far cry from that feeble woman who couldn’t coordinate her steps properly, “I was sick so bad, but God has brought me back. I am truly a miracle girl,” she said adding that she truly loves the Lord and her desire is to forever serve Him.

For over 30 years Shirley Willis has been carrying out her mandate to spread the gospel worldwide through her vocal talents. Her dynamic and outstanding contribution to the Grace Thrillers Ministry has gained her recognition internationally as one of the group’s most prominent lead singers. She has travelled extensively with the group, to many states in the United States of America, various cities in Canada, the Leeward and Windward islands of the Caribbean and Europe.

Shirley’s distinct sound can be heard in Grace Thrillers recording of songs, such as By the Grace of God I am Saved, Can’t Even Walk, Oh What a Sunrise and Not My Will.

Her passion for the Lord and for gospel music has inspired Shirley Willis to take her talents to another level by establishing a solo ministry. She recorded her first album entitled Trust Him More and continues to inspire through the gospel of song.

Shirley Willis says she has been busy on the gospel circuit performing in places such as Pennsylvania, Canada, Florida, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Willis says she is delighted and looking forward to the opportunity to share the stage with fellow gospel artistes Mary Mary, Prodigal Son, One Voice and the Kencot Youth Choir come May 29.
