Wizards, Majesty take leads in Conference semis
DEFENDING champions Tivoli Wizards and Majesty Legends snatched Game One of their respective best-of-three semi-finals of the Flow/NBL Southern Conference Tuesday night at the National Basketball Courts.
Kirk Ferguson and Anthony Farquharson both had a double for the Wizards to trounce Jamaica Defence Force, 62-52.
The Wizards raced to a 27-14 lead after the first quarter, getting the start they wanted. But the JDF rallied in the second quarter and trailed 40-32 by half-time.
In the third quarter, the Wizards dug in and kept the upperhand for the remainder of the match.
Ferguson scored 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, supported by Farquharson with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
For the JDF, Fuertado Clarke and Stephen Spence scored only nine points apiece. Clarke also had nine rebounds and Spence, 11 rebounds.
In the second match of the double-header, Majesty Legends outscored Urban Knights, 61-58. Baldon Todd (16 points, eight rebounds) and Damion Young (16 points, nine rebounds) put on a two-man show in a tough fight against the Knights.
Majesty led 18-10 in the first quarter, 34-33 in the second quarter, and 43-38 in the third quarter before holding on in the end.
Andre Murray scored a game-high 18 points for Knights, with Fernando Young contributing 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Game Two will get underway tonight with the Knights taking on Majesty at 6:00 pm and Wizards hoping to wrap up the semi-final match against JDF at 8:00 pm, both at the National Stadium Courts.
