Preposterous
Dear Editor,
This concerns the AP article, “Stephen Hawking says heaven is a myth”, of May 16, 2011.
The physicist’s claim that there is no “afterlife” and that “quantum fluctuations in the very early universe sowed the seeds of human life” is preposterous. If there is no afterlife, who brought into being the certain mass, force and gravity that provides the medium for so-called quantum fluctuations? Hawking has never demonstrated this or shown how such non-living material can bring forth living organisms. He merely states these things and then proceeds to use them to denounce what others believe about God and “heaven”.
Contrary to Hawking, science alone cannot provide answers for the existence of the universe, truth, freedom, ethics, and of life. These are questions that can only be answered through the compatibility of science, theology and philosophy.
