Waulgrovians, Mico meet in Super League
MANY-TIME champions Waulgrovians ‘A’ will be seeking to return to the top of the table when they take on Mico ‘A’ in the 2011 Berger Paints/JNA Super League this evening at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 6:15.
The purple-and-white-clad Marvette Anderson-coached aggregation tasted defeat for the first time in seven games when they lost 70-54 to WINDALCO.
With JAMALCO winning 55-25 on Thursday against Mico ‘A’, the former champions have also moved to the top of the standings for the first time with 32 points, while reigning champions Tivoli ‘A’ (31 points) and Waulgrovians ‘A’ (30) join the fray for the battle for the top spot at the end of the preliminary rounds.
All three teams have games in hand.
Waulgrovians ‘A’, however, should be able to register their second win against Mico ‘A’, having won the first round encounter 51-46. Mico ‘A’ should again make the “purple-and-whites” aggregation work hard for victory.
Goal-shooter Jhanielle Fowler, who has scored majority of Waulgrovians’ goals this season, should once again lead that charge with support to come from goal-attack Marion Campbell or Khadijah Williams.
Meanwhile, shooters Sharna Carridice and Patricia McCalla should reply for Mico ‘A’.
Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the Division ‘B’ League will also be played this afternoon with OMEGA ‘A’ facing Ravens ‘B’ at 3:00 pm; SPEG ‘B’ taking on Waulgrovians ‘C’ at 3:45 pm; Job’s Lane United up against Jamaica Defence Force at 4:15 pm and Leiba Gardens meeting Ocho Rios Magics at 5:00 pm.
The semi-finals of the Division ‘B’ League are scheduled for Thursday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
