HELPING you save money while also saving mother earth is one of the key features of Green Expo 2011, which kicks off on June 10.

“Saving energy in your home and office saves you money, and, in the process, will allow the Government to redirect the exorbitant amount currently spent on its oil bill to other critical areas like heath and education,” said Robert Stephens, chairman of the of Jamaica Conservation Development Trust (JCDT).

“Additionally, it reduces the demand for fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas which means lower emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) — the primary contributor to global warming… These are some of the many lessons in conservation that we hope to impart to the Jamaican public at Green Expo 2011,” he added.

The two-day expo, which will run until June 12 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, will zero in on certain crucial subjects for Jamaica and the Caribbean, all of which have energy conservation at their core. They include alternative energy, water conservation, waste management, and recycling.

According to the US Department of Energy, consumers spend six to 12 per cent of their income on utilities, and, with skyrocketing utility costs, diminishing resources and growing concern over the natural environment, people everywhere are obliged to pay more attention to their role in helping to reduce global energy consumption.

“You do not have to do without to achieve these savings. There is now an energy-efficient alternative for almost every kind of appliance or light fixture. That means that consumers have a real choice and the power to change their energy use on a revolutionary scale,” Stephens said.

It is against this background that he has extended his invitation to Jamaicans to attend the show, which will showcase, among other things, energy-efficient building material and other energy-saving devices.

Energy solution suppliers, such as Life’s Solutions Company Limited, Isratech Jamaica Limited, ECCOWORKS Jamaica Limited, Innovative Brand Solutions Limited, Alternative Power Sources, Caribbean Solar Energy, P&R Trading and Jamaica Energy Saving Solutions Ltd are a few of the exhibitors that will be on hand to guide visitors on energy conservation.
