Quartet battles in Claro Community semis
FOUR teams will do battle in the semi-finals of the CLARO/INSPORTS All-Island Community Football Championship at Constant Spring and Elletson Wakeland Centre in Trelawny this afternoon, starting at 1:00.
The quartet is hunting a place in the Grand Final scheduled for the National Stadium next Saturday.
Kingston parish winners Romantic United will face Crook’s Street United of St Andrew at Constant Spring, while St James parish champions Tennament Youth tackle Ocho Rios SC of St Ann.
The overall winners of the tournament will pocket $500,000; the runners-up $150,000; third place $100,000 and fourth, $50,000. The semi-finalists are expected to go all out for victory to qualify for the major spoils.
The Romantic United/Crook’s Street encounter promises to be an entertaining affair as the teams will be meeting for the first time.
Crook’s Street’s coach Rodger Hill said Romantic is a fairly good team, but his team will emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, manager/coach of Romantic United, Devon Jackson, said: “I have seen them in action… and they’re a good team, but I won’t be taking any chances as football is not an easy game to predict when it comes to this stage of the competition.”
Extra-time, and penalties, will be used to determine the winners, if necessary.
