Gibson says belief key to better Windies batting
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP) – West Indies cricket coach Ottis Gibson is pleased with the talent in his team’s batting ranks but believes a lack of self-belief is one of the main reasons for their lack of productivity at the highest level.
There were only two half-centuries from West Indies batsmen in the two-test series against Pakistan that finished this week.
Pakistan notched two centuries and five 50s, rebounding from a first-test loss to win the second match in St Kitts.
Gibson was delighted with his bowlers but admitted his batsmen failed rise to the occasion.
In reflecting on the short series, Gibson says the bowling “seems to me to be a very, very positive sign.”
“We just need now for our batters to start to have a little bit more belief in themselves when they are out in the middle, especially against the spinners.”
