JFF lashes Goodison no-show
NATIONAL senior head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore has expressed profound disappointment in the failure of national representative Ian ‘Pepe’ Goodison to join the national squad presently in Brazil preparing for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Goodison did not depart Jamaica on Thursday with other players Jason Morrison, Dwayne Miller, Rudolph Austin and Dane Richards as scheduled.
As a result, Goodison has been removed from the squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup as the Brazil pre-tournament camp was mandatory for all players.
Not showing up for the ongoing camp at the Traffic Football Academy at Porto Felix, the veteran player would have given up the opportunnity for joining the squad in California for the first fixture against Grenada on June 6.
“The days of players doing as they please with the national programme are over,” a JFF release quoted Whitmore as saying. “This is the case no matter who the player is, regardless of his experience or standing; no one is bigger than the team. And while the door is never closed to any national player, this is a lost opportunity for Mr Goodison,” the quote added.
“We have moved on with the preparation as both the technical staff and the players are determined to do well at this tournament,” added Whitemore, a former Reggae Boy and professional teammate of Goodison and longtime friend.
