Kickers hunt semi-final spot at expense of Roses
WESTGREEN, St James — Violet Kickers could move into a semi-final spot today if they can beat Salt Spring Roses in a return-round St James Football Association’s Claro Major League game at Westgreen.
The former champions, who are unbeaten so far in the return round, are well-placed to overtake fourth-placed Little Miami on goal difference for the spot.
Violet Kickers areon 30 points, three behind Little Miami, both on the same goal-difference.
Salt Spring Roses, who drew 1-1 with Kickers in the first round, have lost all five games in the return-round so far, conceding 14 goals over the span and have slid to ninth place in the standings.
The race for the top four places is heating up especially with leaders Fogo United hitting a bad patch allowing the rest of the field to catch them.
The Flankers-based club is on 38 points, three more than Montego Bay Boys Club’s 35 with Melbourne in third place on 34 points, one more than Little Miami, all from 19 games.
Also today, Granville and Mountain Villa will be seeking wins over Barrett Town and Salt Spring United, respectively.
Granville will travel to Wyndham to face Barrett Town, while Mountain Villa and Salt Spring United will meet at the UDC field.
