Sharpes Rebels on top
AFTER five weekends of competition, Sharpes Rebels have the edge in Men’s Premier League Hockey with 10 points, one ahead of Munro College Old Boys (MCOB) and Circus Circle.
Spurred by Giovanni Gordon, Arnold Gentles, Kimani Airey, and Roosevelt Rush, the Rebels defeated MCOB 1-0, Explorers 3-0, and JDF 2-0 and drew 0-0 with Raiders United.
But their 1-0 loss to Circus Circle two Saturdays ago has paved the way for MCOB to shoot ahead.
The Rebels and Circus Circle have played five matches, one more than MCOB, whose match against cellar-dwellers Raiders United (one point) was rescheduled.
Duvaughn Henlon (the league’s leading scorer with four goals) and Jerome Carty (three goals) have carved out three victories for MCOB and will need more attacking support this Sunday when they wrestle with leaders Rebels, the best defensive team in the league, at 4:00 pm.
Circus Circle, meanwhile, have found themselves in a dilemma as the strength of their attack is blunted by a very vulnerable defence, with 10 goals for (more than any other team), but have also conceded 10 goals.
Gerald Richards, Charles Burton, Kishawn Smith have risen to the occasion for Circus Circle, who will play fourth-placed JDF (six points) on Saturday, after Explorers (also on six points) take on Raiders United.
