Laza Morgan confirmed for Reggae Sumfest
Atlantic /Elektra recording artiste Laza Morgan, brother of Gramps and Peetah Morgan of famed reggae group Morgan Heritage, is confirmed as a performer on International Night 2 at the 2011 installment of Reggae Sumfest, on Saturday, July 23, at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Laza will join US acts Nicki Minaj, R Kelly, along with Jamaican hitmakers Mavado, Jah Cure, Beenie Man, Tanya Stephens and I-Octane at Sumfest, that runs on Thursday July 21 – Saturday July 23.
“I am extremely excited to be included in this year’s impressive Reggae Sumfest line-up. Sumfest is certainly the biggest platform in the Caribbean for a reggae artistes to showcase their craft and I plan to do just that when I perform on International Night this year” he said.
Laza, who at age 13 (1992), performed with the group ‘The Dreads’ in Montego Bay at Jamaica’s famed Reggae Sunsplash is promising fireworks inside Catherine Hall when he romps on stage for his first performance in Jamaica in a very long time.
“I plan to bring my A game to Sumfest and give fans something extra special that they will remember and treasure for many, many years to come” Morgan, one of 30 siblings promised.
Morgan’s raspy, resonating voice and rhythmic ‘DJ’ style flows are causing heads to turn stateside with his new single One by One featuring dancehall hitmaker Mavado. The track, produced by Julian Bunetta and Frank E, is a hypnotic love song that is blazing urban Power 106 FM in LA, WJMH in Boston, WVIP in New York, WAVS in Florida and other radio stations across the USA with its compelling charm.
Laza Morgan’s forthcoming Elektra debut has already yielded a single, This Girl that was featured in Disney’s feature film Step Up 3-D and its smash soundtrack. This Girl has generated over seven million hits on YouTube and has created a buzz that spans the globe.
