LIME headlines first Lucea Yam and Seafood fest
TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant LIME will be heading to Hanover this Emancipation Day (August 1) as title sponsors of the inaugural Lucea Yam and Seafood Festival.
The LIME Lucea Yam & Seafood Festival which is organised by the Ruseas’ Old Students’ Association (ROSA) will include a yam & seafood competitions, food sampling and entertainment.
Speaking at the July 7 launch, Stephen Miller, LIME brand manager, said: “Lucea yam is very special to us Jamaicans. LIME is delighted at the opportunity to celebrate and support one of our famous Jamaican communities in a very unique way.”
Miller also congratulated the association for its effort in championing the development of one of Jamaica’s oldest traditional high school,
“We are seeking to promote the festival as a fund-raiser to bring awareness to Rusea’s High School and the work that ROSA is trying to carry out to bring Rusea’s back to its former glory” says Lloyd Tomlinson, ROSA president.
According to Tomlinson, the festival which is currently being promoted overseas by the Jamaica Tourist Board has already seen more 500 past students of Ruseas’, confirming trips from overseas to attend.
He further pointed out that the event, which culminates the annual Rusea’s reunion weekend, will also seek to showcase the cultural attractions of the quaint coastal town.
The culinary celebration will take place at the Watson Taylor Park in Lucea and feature top local and dancehall acts including Assassin, Tifa, Omari and LIME artiste Alaine.
A special feature will be an ‘Old Time’ village with themed exhibitions of food recipes, sampling of traditional pastries and a storyteller corner for children.
