Advantage Generals in command of Lime Cup
With just one match day before the trophy round, the jostling for positions continues this weekend in rounds Four and Five of the 2011 Lime Cup team match-play golf tournament at the Caymanas Golf Club today. First tee is at 7:30 am.
For the golfers and team supporters, the scoreboard has been a constant reminder that, in addition to the fact that the final two preliminary rounds are being contended, there is no margin for error for the likes of defending champions Buccaneers of Appleton Estate, who are a loss away from conceding their title.
The Metry Seaga-led Buccaneers are rooted at the bottom of the six-team table on three points. They do, however, have company as three other teams are in the same position — the Lime Lions, Pan Caribbean Jaguars and SportsMax MaxPak.
In the lead are the seamless Advantage Generals, who are head and shoulders above the rest on maximum nine points and who are eager to correct the disappointment of the past two years, where they had to play caddy to the two-time defending champions Buccaneers after falling at the final.
Round Four will be contested on the singles format, while teams will face off on the ‘two man better ball’ set-up for the penultimate Round Five which tees off at 1:30 pm.
The Advantage Generals will look to continue their winning streak against the Pan Caribbean Jaguars in Round Four, while the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate will look to hold onto their fast-fading title hopes against the JustBet Springs, who are nervously positioned in second place and will be desperate to consolidate a spot in the final, which would be almost certain with a win against the defending champions here.
In the other singles contest, the Lime Lions will look to strengthen their position against the SportsMax MaxPak.
Round Five will see the title favourites the Advantage Generals playing the Lime Lions, while the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate will play the SportsMax MaxPak and the Pan Caribbean Jaguars have been paired with JustBet Springs.
