Claro/St James FA titles on line today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Both Claro-sponsored St James Football Association’s competitions, the Senior League and Division One, will be decided this afternoon after the return legs at Jarrett Park.
Fogo United and Little Miami are locked at 0-0 going into the Senior League, while Norwood Strikers and Rosemount are tied at 2-2.
There will be a third game today — the Western Masters League decider between First Choice and Challengers set to start at 7:00 pm after the first two games.
Fogo United and Norwood Strikers went into the finals as clear favourites to take the respective titles, but will now have to dig deep if they are to deliver.
In the Senior League, the teams will be battling for a place in next season’s Western Confederation Super League as well as the championship trophy and cash prize of $150,000.
Both teams had easy wins in the semis, Fogo seeing off Granville City with a 5-1 aggregate, while Little Miami upset a good Montego Bay Boys Club team, 4-0, in their return-leg game after drawing 0-0 in the first game.
Little Miami will come into today’s game full of confidence and Fogo cannot afford to relax.
Both teams in the Division One final have already been promoted to next season’s Senior League and so the first prize money of $90,000 and bragging rights will make the difference.
Norwood were runaway winners in the regular season, losing just twice in 22 games on their way to a massive 56-points tally, scoring 60 goals while conceding just 19.
Rosemount finished second 10 points adrift, but conceded 30 goals while scoring 50.
In the semis, Norwood saw off Marl Road while Rosemount beat West Green for the rights to meet in the decider.
