Wait Awhile for Aston Commock Memorial Trophy
Groom Dennis Morgan sits atop his new Honda Wave motorbike, which he won at the Grooms’ Day race meet at CaymanasPark last Saturday. The bike was donated by Caymanas Track Limited witha contribution from Stewart’s Auto Sales Ltd. Wait Awhile for Aston Commock Memorial Trophy

Wait Awhile, a consistent grey filly, has been waiting awhile for a suitable journey over which to accomplish her second win of her four-year-old career and gets the trip which seems ideal in the $516,600 Aston Commock Memorial Trophy Restricted Allowance 111 anchor of the 10-race midweek card at Caymanas Park today at 4:05 pm. First post at 12:55 pm.

Though trip and company look ideal, victory should not come easy as Wait Awhile will face formidable opposition in the field of eight native-bred four-year-olds and upward (NW3 O/T) in the 1,700 metres contest. She, however, possesses the pedigree and preparation to prevail above all however stiff the competition should turn out to be. Owned by Spring Park Stud Farm and trained by Bill Deenah, Wait Awhile is a proven galloper who ran steadily when sprinting on last and is ideally bred for the distance being a daughter of Dayton Flyer out of Latin Princess (Slick Trick) bred by Lorenzo Robinson.

While she has a keen turn of foot when sprinting, it is over distances such as today’s that she shows greater application and with the field not as formidable as the ones she has faced in the past while attacking distances such as this, she stands a better than even chance of coming away the winner by being more resolute on this occasion.

A winner of three career races, she opened the current season with a 2 1/2 lengths win over 1,200 metres from a series of consistent performances over varying distances from 11 starts and with her ability to sprint and stay, her connections must have their eyes set on taking this trophy back to her barn from a determined effort.

In her two best efforts for the season inform rider Paul ‘Country’ Francis was aboard and after another good effort behind J R’s Dream and The Validictorian while sprinting on June 6 under Ameth Robles, trainer Deenah has recalled the capable and inform reinsman Francis to replace Robles.

Main obstacle to copping her fourth career win should come from the also inform four-year-old filly The Validictorian, along with the improving chestnut filly Asantewa and the talented but reluctant chestnut gelding Cruiser, who are all well suited to 1,700 metres and are not only here to make up numbers.
