CCTA gives US$1,000 to SOS Children’s Village
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The SOS Children’s Village in Montego Bay was the recipient of US$1,000.00 courtesy of a grant from the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA).
Nominated by Flow, the Montego Bay village which houses 100 children was chosen for the coveted grant, as the broadband’s charity of choice for 2011 from the annual grants donation to groups that carry out outstanding community work.
Gregory Wint, National Director, SOS was elated over the nomination of his organisation by Flow, as well as the subsequent recipient of the Caribbean Cable Association’s grant.
He noted that the financial assistance will, among other things, facilitate the upgrading of the facility.
” The funds will be used to enhance the physical infrastructure of the homes and enhance the nurturing family environment that will go a far way to assist in building their self esteem, mental stability, and supporting their educational advancement,” a joyful Wint expressed.
Meanwhile, Sharon Roper, Vice President of Marketing at Flow argued that the SOS Children’s Village deserved the grant.
“The SOS Villages cares for over 200 children within two locations in Jamaica, catering to the developmental needs of future leaders of the Island. We applaud the efforts of the administrative and care giving team of the organisation and made the recommendation for this grant to further assist their efforts,” Roper noted.
Additionally, Flow will be donating services which provide up to two megabyte of commercial grade Internet, as well as educational cables to the Montego Bay children’s facility, which boast a computer laboratory, as well as a recording studio.
The CCTA’s Community Charities Program, established in 1993, has awarded more than US$253,000.00 to Caribbean charities during its existence.
The program originally awarded only 10 grants per year, but in the last 18 years interest in the program has grown substantially.
In fact, all 15 of the 2011 nominees were considered worthy organisations, which resulted in the association’s board of directors voting unanimously to award US$1,000.00 grants to all of them.
CCTA represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, and the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support their operations.
