Hearing in Terry’s murder to begin today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — ANOTHER attempt will be made today to get the hearing into the murder of former British diplomat John Terry underway in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court, following a failed attempt last month due to the absence of the attorney representing the accused Richard Ewan.
Twenty-four-year-old Ewan is facing a murder charge arising from the September 2009 killing of the 64- year-old Terry at his Mount Carey, St James residence.
Terry’s nude body, was found wrapped in a sheet by his gardener, police said.
A post-mortem revealed that he died from asphyxia due to ligature strangulation associated with other injuries to the neck and head.
Neighbours said a man was seen running from Terry’s home, the night before his body was found, and asked for directions to take a taxi into Montego Bay.
Following the discovery of Terry’s body, detectives from the Major Investigations Task Force and the St James Police launched an investigation, which led to Ewan being charged with conspiracy to the murder of the Honorary Consulate.
However, exhibits sent to the Government Forensic Laboratory for analysis allegedly linked the suspect to the crime and the charge was upgraded to murder.
The police said Ewan was working as a security guard in Montego Bay at the time of Terry’s death.
Thirty-four witnessess are expected to be called for the trial.
