Jamaicans continue to shine at Team Championships
In a strong showing at the inaugural COTECC (Central America and the Caribbean) 12 and Under Team Championship at the Complejo Polideportivo in San Salvador, El Salvador, Jamaica’s boys team of Roger Lyn and Dimitri Bird defeated the Dominican Republic 2-1 on Tuesday.
At the number one singles position, Lyn’s illness persisted and he once again had to retire, this time at 1-2 in the third set against Nick Hard. Lyn had won the first set 5-3, but lost the second 2-4. At the number two singles position, Bird equalised the tie with a decisive 4-0, 4-2 win over Jose Oscar Diaz.
In a nail-biting deciding doubles match, Bird and Lyn defeated Hard and Diaz 5-3, 4-2 to clinch the tie for Jamaica.
Yesterday, the Jamaicans were scheduled to play Costa Rica to secure their place in the main draw.
