Flexxing with Spice
AS a proud mother of two, entrepreneur and recording artiste, dancehall darling Spice knows just how much heat is needed to change things up.
Her busy life is like that of many other women, but her ability to create the stir she did is proof that she’s no ordinary woman.
At Sting in 2000 Spice said “Unnu fi let in more female inna di business!”
Well, recently TEENage Flexxed with her, and she told us that her statement has helped to alter the business’ landscape. “It has definitely caused a change, and I must commend the females for their determination and zeal; it feels so good to see so many females making strides in the business today,” she told Flexx.
Spice — who has already gained much local and regional recognition — has started to spread her wings on the international scene. This is evident from her recent hit single Fun, which was a collaboration with the multiple award-winning, American superstar Missy Elliot. Then there is her spur-of-the-moment collaboration with R&B sensation Mya on the track Take Him Back. With these two singles, Spice hopes that she can now gain the international recognition she has always been craving.
When asked about the anticipated album she said that: “VP Records is working with me on this one to make it great, so I am really not in any rush to complete it, as I want it to be authentic and relevant.”
Believed to be the Princess of Dancehall, Spice also considers herself to be a God-fearing Christian since her childhood. She further went on to express her love for gospel music and added that she would love to do a collaboration with gospel sensation DJ Nicholas.
She even told Flexx that she would love to do some gospel music of her own in the future. She also wants to venture into fashion, and with an appealing design sense, she believes that the industry has no boundaries. You can see this in the unique pieces in her chic store, Spicey Couture.
Spice, who is 2011 socialist at heart ,performed at Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night. During our interview she told us to “come fi si an exciting hairstyle and, of course, a performance to remember”. She did not disappoint.
In addition, look out for Spice’s Birthday Bash on August 13 at Waves Beach in Portmore, which promises to be ‘fun’.
