Scotiabank, Gleaner meet in KO rumble
SCOTIABANK Group and Gleaner Company will contest the final of the Scotiabank Group-sponsored Business House football Knock-out competition today at the UWI Bowl, starting at 4:30 pm.
Both teams secured convincing 3-1 and 5-0 victories over National Housing Trust and Norman Manley International Airport in their respective semi finals last Saturday at the same venue.
The Gleaner’s player/coach Rudolph Speid will rely mostly on players who represented Super League team Cavaliers in their unsuccessful bid to play Premier League football this season. Everdeen Scarlett, Fabian Swaby, Locksley Thompson, Bernard Blackwood, Keiron Block, Dwayne Thompson and George Stephenson will try to ensure that the newsmen are victorious. Manager Barington Deer expects the Gleaner, who use to be a top team in the competition, to break the drought and win their first title since 2007.
The Calvert Fitzgerald-guided Scotiabank team who defeated their opponents, 2-1, in their final league game two weeks ago and prevented them from reaching the league semifinal, will depend mostly on their Premier League players.
Humble Lion goalkeeper Damion Crooks and Ajuran Brown, Tivoli’s Damion Gordon and Akeem Thenstead, who plays for Waterhouse, will lead the charge for the bankers.
They will be supported by captain Donovan Hibbert, Norwayne Knight, Nicholas McCreath and Richard West, who scored a hat-trick in the semi-final, to cop their first knock-out title.
