My Kingston – Kevoy Burton
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
I got my first introduction to Kingston in 2004 when I passed for Ardenne High.
What do you miss when you are not in Kingston?
I miss the excitement you wouldn’t normally see anywhere else but in Kingston.
What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?
I’d need much more time, but would commence the building of facilities for the homeless people around the city.
What’s your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Be careful and enjoy it to the fullest because Kingston has a lot to offer.
Share with us the title of the last book you read.
The last book I read was A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer.
What is your middle name?
Carl.
And the last bit of music that stirred your soul?
It was a song called Reflections by a student of Ardenne called Alkaline. The song was about graduating and missing all of your friends, which is the phase I’m going through now.
Which cologne are you currently splashing?
Adidas.
What is your preferred beverage?
Ocean Spray Cranberry-flavoured Wata (laughs).
What was your most memorable meal in Kingston?
On my 16th birthday I went to Dragon Court restaurant with my best friend, his brother and his mother. We thought the Mala chicken was the ideal meal and so we ordered three dishes. It was the spiciest chicken we had ever eaten in our lives!
What are your current projects?
I’m in the performing arts group called Tableaux and although I am still focused on school, I am also working on a production called Kingston House.
What upsets you?
A spiteful person upsets me most.
Share your favourite spots on the island.
Enchanted Gardens, Sun Coast Amusement, Carib 5, Ardenne, and there’s no place like home.
It’s your first time on the ‘Big’ screen, how did you prepare yourself for your role?
Once I got myself in the frame of mind to be in front of the camera, I was ready. I applied what I learned from the Ardenne Drama Club, as well as instructions from Winston ‘Bello’ Bell, my parents and my manager.
Who are your favourite actors?
Denzel Washington, Winston Bell, Kadeem Wilson and Will Smith.
What were your thoughts the first time you saw yourself on screen?
I thought… Wooooow, this is it! I never thought I would be here at all. I worried about what people would say about it and worried about how it would be received.
What’s your philosophy?
Perseverance and humility is all there is to it.
