Asafa, Blake for Zurich diamond League clash
AFTER failing to compete in the just concluded World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, former world record holder Asafa Powell, is set to clash with newly crowned 100 metre wolrd champion Yohan Blake at the Zurich Diamond League on Wednesday.
Powell complained of a sore groin and opted to pull out of the 100 metres.
Although he trained every day in the Athletes village Powell was not selected for the relay team which went on to smash the record with a time of 37.04.
Blake took advantage of Usain Bolt’s false start and Powell’s absence to claim the 100 metres title in Daegu and will be looking to maintain his winning form when he races in Zurich.
In addition to Blake and Powell, Jamaicans Nesta Carter and Michael Frater along with American Walter Dix, world championship bronze medalist Kim Collins, Richard Thompson and Jaysuma Saidy Ndure complete the line up.
