Germany exhibition comes to Jamaica
FRESH from a successful tour to places like China, South Africa, Canada and Panama, an international travelling exhibition showcasing life in modern Germany will come to Jamaica this September for a 10 day run, before heading to Mexico.
Hosted by the Jamaican German Society, in collaboration with the German Embassy and the German Cultural Agency, Goethe Institut, the Deutschland für Anfänger (Germany for Beginners) Exhibition will be held September 14-23 at the Assembly Hall at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies.
This exhibition is like none other; it is literally, a sculptural mosaic of modern Germany. Using the 26 letters of the alphabet and an array of amusing, serious and often self-ironic elements, it presents contemporary Germany in an informative and interactive way. From ‘A’ for Arbeit (work), by way of ‘F’ for Fußball (football/soccer), all the way to ‘Z’ for Zukunft (future). Visitors will gain insights into life in Germany and German identity. Oversized sculptures of the letters engage visitors and transmit information about Germany’s unique history, politics and culture.
Germany is the world’s third largest and Europe’s largest economy and prides itself on being a nation of poets and thinkers. It is associated, among other things, with prestigious cars, football, industry and industriousness.
Newly appointed ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Jamaica, His Excellency Josef Beck, will officially open the exhibition which is expected to attract hundreds of visitors from the diplomatic and business communities, universities, tertiary institutions and schools, people interested in German affairs and members of the general public.
Admission is free.
