Miller scores three in Munro’s 5-0 stroll
MALVERN, St Elizabeth — Amin Miller scored a hat-trick but missed a half-dozen chances, while captain Kaneil Harrison and Ryan Dwyer were also on target as impressive Munro College whipped Newell High 5-0 to assume the lead in Zone F of the rural area daCosta Cup on Monday.
In the other Zone F encounters, Black River opened their campaign with a 4-1 whipping of Lacovia High, while DeCarteret College, who were also given a 5-0 whipping by STETHS on Saturday, played to a 2-2 draw with Balaclava.
Miller scored in the 45th, 48th and 73rd minutes after Dwyer opened the scoring in the fifth and Harrison — a member of the National Under-17 squad — made it 2-0 in the 32nd for the Alrick Clarke-coached team.
“It’s good to be on the winning side and hopefully we can build on this; it’s a nice feeling, especially at home,” Clarke said.
Playing in cool temperatures on a fair playing surface, Munro dominated the first half with some speedy dribbles down the flanks.
The fleetfooted Neon Brown, Dwyer, Harrison and Miller were the players who led the attacks for Munro.
Newell, on the other hand, did not offer much and had just two real goalscoring chances in the game. Newell’s coach Albert Williams said his team did not play according to the game plan.
