Multi-purpose Rods

Do it yourself

I am constantly encouraging my readers to think outside the box, see items for more than what they are, and use things for multiple purposes to get the most out of them, and this week’s project does exactly that. Well, it’s more of a great idea than a project, but a very useful one nonetheless.

On a recent hunt for towel bars, I was having no luck finding the brass and pewter finishes I wanted. I specifically wanted these finishes to match the existing curtain rod finishes in each room, and then it dawned on me… “Why not use the curtain rods as towel bars?” That way, I get exactly the look I want.

The thing with going this route is that the bars will not be fixed because the brackets are semi-circles; however, most rods allow for screws to be tightened around the rod to hold it firmly in place. You will need to do this to prevent the rod moving whenever you remove a towel.

The plus side to this easily removable rod is that you can use it in a closet or dressing area to organise bangles and other accessories, or in a craft room to keep rolls of tapes and ribbons organised and easily accessible. And the great thing is, it will be both functional and beautiful because there are so many choices of rods available for you to choose from in varying lengths.
