Flames scorch winning trail in D-1 basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Lucea Flames and Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights continued their good starts to the Western Basketball Association’s Division One League by extending their winning starts to three games last weekend.
Both leaders in addition to Granville Wolfpack who were scoring their first win of the season, scored season-high points, all going over the 60-point mark for the first time.
Lucea beat MoBay Warriors 62-32, Knights got by MoBay Lions 66-40, while Wolfpack scored a combined nine three pointers in their 60-30 win over winless March Town Spartans.
Craig Dorman led the slow starting Flames with 17 points, while Sheldon Myrie scored nine points as they scored just six and trailed Warriors by three at he end of the first quarter.
The Hanover team, however, picked up the pace in the second quarter to outscore Warriors 22-5 and take a 28-14 lead at half time then led 47-19 going into the third quarter.
At Montego Bay Cricket Club the home team was led by three players who scored in double figures to beat Lions by 26 points.
Knights also got off to a slow start and trailed Lions 5-9 after the first quarter, but got into their stride in the second quarter with an 18-4 margin to run away with the easy win.
Lemar Mitchell scored 28 points to lead Knights, while Fitzroy Gordon scored 12 points and Jamoi Richards scored 10 points as Lloyd Dixon scored 17 for Lions.
On Saturday in Negril, Granville Wolfpack, led by Andre Uter’s six three-pointers in his game high 22 points, were too much for the winless March Town Spartans.
Daniel Malcolm also scored 19 points for Wolfpack while the veteran Hubert Grant scored two three pointers for Granville who led from the start 16-2 after the first quarter, 34-8 at half time and 47-18 at the end of the third quarter.
