Miss Triniti’s back

Miss Triniti is back on the musical radar and this time she’s promoting her new single If I Was Your Girl.

Over the past seven years, the singer has collaborated with the likes of Beenie Man, Baby Cham and Vybz Kartel. Now after scoring Top 10 hits with Burnin Burnin, Bounce Along, and Lock Down, Miss Triniti describes her musical journey as being an adventurous one.

“It’s been a journey filled with highs and lows, but mostly it’s all positive. I have made music a career for seven years and the mortgage is on time so for that I feel blessed”, she said in a recent interview with this column.

Her new single If I Was Your Girl is already in rotation on local radio and she plans to turn up the heat by collaborating with more Jamaican artistes. “I think it’s time for some girl power and Alaine I have spoken about doing a collaboration so let’s see what happens”, said Ms Triniti.

Born in London, Ms Triniti grew up mostly in Trinidad. At the age of 18 she moved to the US to take up a tennis scholarship.

“I think what separates me from the pack is that my style doesn’t fit the mould. It is a cross over style of music and lyrical content. I am blending the Caribbean with the western world which is exactly what I am about being that I have three cultures,” she said.

Ms Triniti has a number of projects on the horizon. She appears in the film Out the Gate which will see its local premiere next week. The film stars Paul Campbell, Oliver Samuels and Everton ‘E-Dee’ Dennis. Dennis had teamed up with Ms Triniti a few years ago for their Billboard-charting single Bounce Along.

“I’m finishing up my album for release in Japan and Europe. I am also hoping to win another award at the African music awards next week. I won two awards in East Africa for Best song and video and now I am nominated for two more awards for the whole of Africa,” Ms Triniti concluded.

Adventerous joins Junior X at Revolutionary Entertainment

Reggae artiste Adventerous is now joined the Revolutionary Entertainment Records roster. The label already has cultural crooner Junior X as its flagship artiste.

“I feel very happy about my career and the direction its taking, Revolutionary Entertainment has a very positive track record and I can tell that being with them is gonna be great for my career,” Adventerous said recently.

According to Revolutionary Entertainment CEO Dennis Livingston, who is the nephew of reggae icon Bunny Wailer, the label has a lot of confidence in Adventerous and that he and his team plan to take his career to the next level.

“Adventerous is a very good talent and that’s what we are all about at Revolutionary, working with good talent. Our company is young but we have done a lot of good work so far with artists like Cen’c Love, Andrew Tosh and Junior X. So we plan to continue on the same path with Adventerous”, said Livingston.

George Nooks on top

Singer George Nooks’ cover of the gospel recording Broken Vessel has taken over the number one spot on the New York and South Florida reggae charts. The song which was recorded to a jazzy reggae beat has been getting ample airtime on local radio.

The song is also doing very well in London and other parts of the Caribbean. Commenting on the success of the gospel cover Nooks says he really couldn’t be any happier about the response the song has been receiving since its release. “I’ve had people coming up to me and telling me just how much this song has touched them. I guess that’s the reason it has taken off so much.”

This is not the first time that Nooks has scored big with a gospel song. His cover of Al Green’s God Is Standing By topped several charts ten years ago. “It seems my grandmother knew something I didn’t when she made me promise that I would record gospel songs,” said Nooks about the overwhelming responses he has been getting on his gospel covers.

Chart Updates

Jennifer Lopez is on top of Billboard’s Dance Music Club Play chart this week with Papi. Former Pussy Cat Dolls lead singer and American X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger moves to number three with Don’t Hold Your Breath. Rihanna’s We Found Love jumps from 23 to 11, while C&C Music Factory blazes back onto the chart after a more than 10-year absence with Rain featuring Scarlett Santana. The track dances from 26 to 16.

Over on Billboard’s Reggae album chart Distant Relatives by Nas and Damian Marley rebounds to the number one spot, while Backyard Boogie by J Boog which was on top for three weeks, falls to number two. Jewish reggae artiste Matisyahu hits the top ten at number ten with Live at Stubbs Vol. 2.

Adele reclaims the number one spot on Billboard’s 200 album chart as the set 21 sold 110,000 copies to earn an eleventh non consecutive week in pole position. R&B singer Joe sold 33,000 copies of his new album The Good, The Bad, The Sexy to earn his fifth Top 10 entry. The album debuted at number eight while over on the R&B Hip Hop album chart it fares better rushing in at number two.

Over in the UK, Rihanna remains at number one for a third week atop the UK singles chart with We Found Love. Sean Paul debuts at number eleven with Got To Luv Ya featuring Alexis Jordan.

Did You Know?

In 1983 Madonna topped the Dance charts with the tune Holiday. The song was written by two members of the New Jersey based dance/pop group called Pure Energy. Pure Energy scored seven dance charting single between 1980 and 1984.

But did you know that Holiday was first offered to former member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson? Wilson turned down recording the song and it was offered to Madonna who made it into a club anthem.
