Zuzana Zlochova in 2nd straight singles final
ROSE HALL, St James — Despite dropping her first set in two weeks, top-seeded Zuzana Zlochova of Slovakia advanced to her second straight singles final in the ITF Women’s Futures series being held at the Hilton Rose Hall Hotel and Spa.
In this morning’s final, Zlochova, who won last week’s final, will face third seed Katrina Kramperova of the Czech Republic, starting at 10:30 following contrasting wins in the semi-finals yesterday.
Zlochova beat the Czech player Tereza Hladikova 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 in a close encounter, while Kramperova, who was beaten in the semi-finals last week by American qualifier Anamika Bhargava, beat sixth-seeded Elizabeth Ferris of the USA 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the final.
Meanwhile, in the doubles final played yesterday, the team of American Jennifer Brady and Czech Nikola Hubnerova beat the second-ranked Mexican pair of Ximena Hermoso and Ivette Lopez in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
On their way to the final, Brady and Hubnerova had beaten the top-ranked Czech pair of Simona Dobra and Kramperova, while the Mexicans had beaten the pair of American Brittany Augustine and Finnish Leia Kaukonen.
The qualifiers for the third tournament in the series will also get underway this morning as six players will seek to get into the main draw.
