Mas Camp finds new home
DESPITE losing its 12-year base to development late November, carnival organisers — Bachannal Jamaica — have identified a new home for its annual Mas Camp.
According to reliable sources, Bachannal Jamaica is now relocated on the northern section of the National Stadium grounds. Construction has also started on the property.
The former site, located on Oxford Road in New Kingston, was home to several other parties including Good Times, Mello Vibes and Yesterday. And, was one of the biggest outdoor entertainment venues in the Corporate Area.
The property was, however, acquired by the Sandals/ATL Group five years ago, with a view to housing its state-of-the-art automotive terminals and a hotel. In fact, the official ground breaking ceremony takes place on Wednesday.
The Sunday Entertainment also understands the new Mas Camp home was secured under a lease. However, details of the lease arrangement could not be ascertained up to press time.
Several efforts to contact Major Desmon Brown, general manager of Independence Park Limited and the Sports Development Foundation, were unsuccessful.
Independence Park Limited (IPL) manages the National Stadium complex.
Efforts to contact Bachannal Jamaica for a comment was also unsuccessful.
Started 24 years ago, Bacchanal Jamaica is an amalgamation of three top bands — Oakridge, Revellers and Raiders.
