Mannings Development Meet today
SAV LA MAR, Westmoreland — The revamped County of Cornwall Athletics Association’s (COCAA) Mannings Development Meet is set to be held today at the Mannings School grounds in Sav la Mar, Westmoreland starting at 9:30 am.
The meet that was formerly the Mannings Hurdles, Field and Distance meet had to be revamped says president of COCAA Steve Smith, who will be the meet director today.
“When the meet was first conceptualised, the format worked… but as we went along we realised we were losing a lot of schools that went to other meets so we had to make some changes so we could attract the schools,” he said.
Smith said there won’t be be any hurdles events this year, instead there will be events from 200m to 5,000m in all classes; long jump and high jump, shot put and discus as well as two relays events.
These events, the COCAA president said, would ensure more schools from the region taking part as well as some from outside the County of Cornwall.
All track events would be timed finals while the relays will be 4x200m and 4x400m.
As many as 30 schools are expected to take part in the meet, Smith told the Observer.
