‘Nailing’ it in 2012 Part 2
Celeb threads are not the only on-trend looks you can snag and make your own this season. Nail designs are also a significant aspect of a fashionista’s look. Get the Look sought the advice of our local nail technicians for the on-trend techniques and colours that can help you ‘nail’ the ideal look.
Shellac Nail Polish
According to Wayne Maxwell, owner of J’Max Hair and Nail Club, “Clients are into shellac nail polish. It lasts up to 14 days without losing shine, breaking or chipping. They are also requesting pastel colours.” This hot new trend utilises a special gel like polish that features UV3 technology to dry the polish once applied. It comes in a variety of colours and shades and is perfect for the woman on the go.

Dark Colours
Nail technician Kerry Rowe, of Athena Salon and Gaia Day Spa, informed us that though nude shades are seemingly in, her clients are requesting darker shades. Deep navy, black, grey and eggplant are hot shades to give a try.

Pastels
The nail polish technique that has grown increasingly popular at Bella Oasis is the shellac nail polish trend. However, the colours of choice are pastels. “Pastel colours like mint green or ocean blues seem to be in. If you are nervous about hopping onto the pastel nail trend, I encourage you to try out colours for at least two weeks then try something new,” shared Pauline Binns, hair stylist and nail technician at Bella Oasis Day Spa.
Airbrushed Designs
For the more adventurous among us who want to take a break from the classic French manicure, airbrushed designs are always a viable option. “If persons are doing tips, airbrushed designs are very popular. We tend to check what polishes are in season online for our clients to choose from,” Binns added .

Red
Though lavender, nude and aqua are very on-trend colours, Denise Buchanan of Chen Ore’s For Beauty finds that red remains a classic. “Women are still making red a monthly must-have,” she informed us. Samantha Coke of Hair Extreme Beauty & Barber Concepts went on to specify that though her clients are requesting red, they do not want the traditional shade. “Most of my clients are requesting wine red. It is really hot and sassy now,” she said.

Earth Tones and Nude Polishes
“My corporate clients have been requesting earth-tone nail polishes. I think the subtle, softer shades are in now,” explained Maureen Malcolm of Monique’s All-Natural. Nude and earth tones are perfect for almost any occasion. Maureen’s hot pick is ‘Wholesome Earth’ from Sally Hansen.
