Wadadah soar in Captain’s Bakery Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Wadadah FC took over the lead in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super league after beating previous leaders Savannah FC 1-0 in their third round game played at the UDC field on Tuesday.
Lavardo White’s first goal of the season propelled Wadadah to 21 points, same as the Westmoreland outfit that they had beaten 4-0 in the mid-season finals two weeks ago, but with a better goal difference.
Tuesday was a good day for St James clubs as Granville FC and Tomorrow’s People were also winners over Bamboo FC and Catherine Hall, respectively.
At the UDC field, Wadadah FC managed to hold off the fitter more organised Savannah, who wasted a number of chances to at least earn a point.
White scored in the eighth minute to give Wadadah their sixth win of the campaign as Savannah were losing their fourth.
Garth Johnson scored twice for Granville at Sam Sharpe Teachers College grounds as they blanked Bamboo 3-0 to move into third place on 19 points, skipping two places over Catherine Hall and Harmony.
All three goals came in the final 25 minutes of the game as Johnson gave the home team the lead in the 65th minute, Andrew Allen added a second five minutes later before Johnson added a second in the 90th minute as time ran out.
Tomorrow’s People, who were contenders for a place in the mid-season championship game going into the final games of the second round, edged Catherine Hall 1-0 in a St James derby as Peter Green scored in the 66 minute. Meanwhile, the game between Frome and Fogo that was to have been played at Frome was postponed as Reno had an Under-21 game at the same venue.
The league will continue tomorrow with five games.
