Slippery Wen Wett for Portmore on Sunday
JAMAICA’S dexterity giants will take their skills to virgin territory this Sunday when they head to Portmore, St Catherine, for ‘Slippery Wen Wett’.
The event — which starts at 2:00 pm — is scheduled for Tyre Warehouse on Port Henderson Road and will see drivers vying for supremacy by completing an obstacle course in the fastest possible time, without incurring penalties.
‘Slippery Wen Wett’ is the third of 10 in the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club’s (JMMC) National Dexterity Championship.
Kingsley Scott, event organiser, said the event would be a grand affair.
“This one is going to be different. This is the first time a dexterity event is coming to Portmore and we’re going to be pulling out all the stops. The drivers will be coming with full guns blazing,” Scott told the Jamaica Observer.
The organiser said his intention is to make Slippery Wen Wett an islandwide event.
“I’ve always wanted to bring the ‘Slippery Wen Wett’ name across Jamaica. So far, we’ve been in St Elizabeth, St Ann and Montego Bay, and people have been asking for it to spread and Tyre Warehouse is allowing us to do that,” he said.
According to the organiser, Sunday’s event is the first of three and was made possible by Scott’s Auto in association with Tyre Warehouse, and is part of the Gymkhana Challenge Series.
Among the drivers gunning for the win on Sunday is veteran drifter Cleve ‘Cutta Hype’ Ottey. Last Sunday, Ottey thrilled the crowd at ‘Stunt Wars’ held at Badda Badda Raceway in Richmond, Priory, with 360 degree spins. He said that performance is a taste of what is to come.
“To be honest, I’m more of a crowd pleaser than a serious Championship contender,” Ottey told Observer. “I’ve been racing for about nine years now and I have got really close to winning the title but entertaining the crowd is much more exciting for me. So I’ll definitely be coming with some style on Sunday because that is what they love,” he continued.
Ottey will be driving his turbo-charged rear-wheel drive blue Toyota Starlet. Other popular drivers expected to compete include young gun Jamar Kinkead, Dennis Becarie and Kingsley Scott, with a special appearance by Richard ‘Sir Rich’ Rerrie.
