Reggae Youths claim Division One double
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Reggae Youths completed the St James FA Division One double after beating Salt Spring United, 2-1, in Sunday’s return-leg final at Jarrett Park for a 3-2 aggregate score.
Reggae Youths, who won the mid-season finals earlier, drew 1-1 with Salt Spring in Tuesday’s first leg.
Theo Shaw scored once in each half on Sunday as they battled back from a first-minute goal from Nicoy Lawrence to win the title after fives years in the Division One league.
Reggae Youths were rocked on their heels early after Lawrence powered a shot past goalkeeper Raion Bernard as Salt Spring got off to a better start.
Shaw drew them level in the 21st when his penalty kick eluded goalkeeper Romaine Kerr but hit the inside of the right post, rebounded across the goal and dribbled across the line.
With the game headed for extra-time, Shaw grabbed the winner three minutes before time in the 87th.
Both teams have advanced to next season’s Senior League.
