Munro lead high school charge at Adidas GP
MUNRO College will seek to defend their High School Boys’ 4x400m title at tomorrow’s staging of the IAAF adidas Diamond League track and field meet at the Icahn Stadium, Randalls Island in New York.
Munro are among four Jamaican high schools that were invited to take part in the meet that is expected to attract a large Caribbean audience.
Munro’s St Elizabeth neighbours, St Elizabeth Technical, will also run the 4x400m, while Edwin Allen and Vere Technical will face-off in the High School Girls 4x100m.
Additionally, two-time CARIFTA Games Under-20 Boys 100m champion Jazeel Murphy is down to contest the High School Boys 100m.
Murphy, who has never competed internationally after the Easter weekend due to a spate of injuries, however, jogged home in a 100m race last Saturday at the Usain Bolt-UWI track.
Jason Morgan, Jamaica’s record-holder in the discus event, will compete in his first ever Diamond League meet and hopes to improve on his personal best 67.15m set earlier this season.
Zara Northover, who is still seeking the Olympic qualifying mark, will also compete in the shot put.
In the high school relays, which have traditionally pitted the best Jamaican teams against the top schools from New York, Munro, who retained their Penn Relays title in April, will be led by Delano Williams. The team should also include Ifeanyi Oiuonye, Senojj Givans, Angelo Jermaine and Angelo Garland.
STETHS will have Okeen Williams, Robin Black, Demar Levy and Dinval Daley.
Edwin Allen should field their best team all season with Christania Williams, Shawnette Lewin, Saqukine Cameron and Claudette Allen, while Vere Technical will have Shericka Jackson, Olivia James, Satima Chambers and Rene Medley.
