Stella Maris Prep top Nestle Schools Champs
Stella Maris Prep, spurred by Jean-Paul Campbell, Chad Young, and Brianna Anderson, won the Nestle Schools Swimming Championships on Saturday at the National Stadium Pool with a combined boys and girls teams score of 379 points.
Hillel Academy Prep placed second with 330 points, ahead of St Peter & Paul Prep 316 points, Immaculate Conception and Mona Preps 226 points, and Excelsior Primary taking sixth with 195 points.
Four individual and two relays records were broken in the two-day meet, with St Hugh’s Prep Zaneta Alvaranga accounting for two, namely the Girls 6 & Under 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.
Alvaranga won the 50m freestyle clocking 38.32 seconds, smashing Stefani Webley’s nine-year mark of 40.79 seconds. Jada Beth Campbell of Creative Kidz Learning Centre was second in 44.27 seconds and Kimberlee Foo of Immaculate Conception Prep third swimming 45.06 seconds.
The six-year-old took the 50m breaststroke in a time of 53.06 seconds, lowering Alexia Royal-Eatmon’s 10-year record of 54.45 seconds. Campbell was also second in the race timing 53.12 seconds with Immaculate Prep’s Brooke Hopkins third in 57.12 seconds.
St Peter & Paul Prep’s Jada Newell and St Hugh’s Prep’s Sean-Douglas Gooden were the two most outstanding swimmers, each accumulating 45 points for their schools.
Competing in the Girls 11-12, Newell secured the 200m individual (3:13.49), 50m backstroke (39.22), 50m freestyle (31.27), 50m breaststroke (42.40), and 100m freestyle (1:17.39).
Gooden topped the Boys 11-12 in the 50m backstroke (41.84), 50m butterfly (37.39), 50m freestyle (32.61), 50m breaststroke (40.38) and 100m freestyle (1:16.32).
Ardenne Prep’s Kyle Sinclair accumulated 40 points, with Zurich Foreman of St Peter & Paul and Lori Sharpe of Vaz Prep scoring 35 points.
Kyle Sinclair set a new meet record in the Boys 7-8 50m freestyle (32.94) and Newell had a meet record in Girls 11-12 50m freestyle (32.61).
Stella Maris Prep and Hillel Academy broke meet records in the Girls 8 & Under 200m medley relay (3:04.62) and Boys 7-8 200m freestyle relay (1:49.46) respectively.
