Hydel, Mona for Prep Cricket final tomorrow
HYDEL and Mona will contest tomorrow’s final of the Scotiabank Prep School Cricket competition at the Police Cricket Ground, Elliston Road.
For the second straight year, the national finals will feature both Surrey finalists, thus ensuring that the trophy remains in the county for a record third consecutive season.
After last Friday’s semi-final victories Mona, the 2010 champions, will be aiming to become the first team to lift the coveted cup twice.
Victory for Hydel will see them engraving their name on the elusive silverware for the first time after failing in the final last year against Lannaman’s Prep.
Middlesex champions Belair Prep and Cornwall kings St James Prep failed on Friday to wrestle the enviable prize from Surrey.
Cornwall have never won the championship since the tournament was expanded in 2008 and will have to wait another year after St James (58 all out) went down by 53 runs to Mona (111-6).
Mona’s victory charge were lead by talented skipper Jeremy Verley, who made 43 not out before bagging 3-13, along with teammate Tevaugn Mullings, who captured 3-13 as well.
Monymusk Prep remain the only team that has managed to bring the title to Middlesex back in 2009, after Belair crumbled to a 58-run defeat against Hydel.
Belair were brilliant in the outfield as they restricted Hydel to 116-5, with top batsman Raewin Senior making 55 against the bowling of Kaymani Grashin, 3-16, and Shamar Robinson, 3-25.
The Manchester side, however, made heavy weather of the chase and were bowled out for 60, with Renako Gentles and Zidane Bogle returning impressive figures of 3-9 from two overs and 3-8 from nine balls, respectively.
Hydel have been knocking on the door based on recent performances for the past two seasons and will be favoured to go all the way this time.
Mona gave them a scare in the county final two weeks ago, but Hydel have proved it will have to take a massive effort to beat them. Match time is 11:00 am.
