Bird, Bicknell make progress at Bahamas event
JAMAICANS Dimitri Bird, 12, and Blaise Bicknell, 10, both advanced to the semifinals at the Cotecc ITF Junkanoo Bowl Under-14 tournament 2012 in Bahamas on Monday.
After winning easily in qualifiers, they advanced into the main draw as the number one and two seeds based on their comfortable winning margins in the qualifiers, and both again won their matches in straight sets Monday to advance.
Bird beat Nick Lines of Bermuda, 6-2, 6-2, while Bicknell accounted for Danny Johnson of The Bahamas, 6-2, 6-1.
In their opening matches, Bicknell and Bird made it to the main draw after easy passages. Bicknell had only two players in his group after one dropped out and won 4-0, 4-1 in his first match which was against the number one-ranked player from The Bahamas. He then returned in his second match to win 4-0,4-0 against a player from Bermuda.
Bird was even more devastating in his opening matches, winning both by the same scores of 4-0, 4-0.
