What is wrong with this West Indies cricket team? Why can’t they win anything? They cannot win a Test match, they cannot win an ODI, they cannot win a Twenty/Twenty against England.

On paper they look to be a powerful world-beating team, but in practice, nothing is further from the truth. They simply lack the will to win.

On this present English tour many West Indian fans, including myself, were definitely expecting a much better performance, but we have been disappointed yet again. I just don’t know what is going on. At times on this tour they have recorded some fairly decent scores, but just could not defend them.

With batsmen like Christopher Gayle, Dwayne Smith, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo and Lendl Simmonds, why can’t they win a match?

I firmly believe that the problem lies with the bowling. The “bits and pieces” bowlers that the selectors have named to bowl out a team like England, the number one team in the world, did not spin and cannot spin.

In the second ODI, the West Indies made a fairly decent score of 239, but just could not defend it, so they ended up losing the match.

In the only Twenty/Twenty that they played, the West Indies batted first and made a fairly decent score of 172, but again could not defend it, so they lost.

The bowling is weak and has to be upgraded speedily if they intend to defeat any top-ranked team like Australia, England, South Africa and India.

The selectors, Mr Editor, are doing a very poor job for their money. They are not selecting the best players that are available to play for the West Indies team, and quite frankly the West Indian people are hurting badly and are sick and tired of excuses.

The selectors, I think, should be immediately sent packing and a new set of selectors employed. The current crop of selectors have certainly not done West Indies cricket proud – their selection services have not helped the team to win. A change is definitely needed now.
