LUCEA, Hanover — Lloyd Stennett, the deputy chief public health inspector at the Hanover Health Department, has raised concerns over the Trash Walk and Mountain Corner minor water supply systems in the parish.

According to Stennett, a recent sample test carried out on the systems which are located in the Cauldwell Division has returned positive for the presence of the E coli bacteria.

The deputy chief public health inspector who made the disclosure during the recent regular monthly meeting of the Hanover Parish Council, urged the authorities to erect caution signs at the water supplies. This is necessary, as the water is untreated, he stressed.

In April of last year the health department had confirmed that there was a diarrhoea outbreak in the Upper Rock Spring community, where the Trash Walk water supply is located.

At that time, the department claimed that the lack of water and less than suitable conditions under which the commodity is produced could have contributed to the outbreak.

Meanwhile, councillor for the Cauldwell Division Anthony Walker told the meeting that he recently visited the Mountain Corner water supply and what he saw “was shocking, even though it was recently cleaned by the National Water Commission.”

He charged that the supply which provides the domestic product to hundreds of residents in the community, is not secure.

“When I went there I almost literally puked, because dogs, goats, cows and human can just walk in and do anything they want. So I am not surprised with the findings of the health department,” Walker emphasised.
