StGC mourns football stalwart Chevannes
FORMER St George’s College and Jamaica footballer Peter Chevannes will be remembered at a service at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St Andrew today, starting at 10:00 am.
Chevannes, who died in the United States where he lived for several years, was a member of the 1959 St George’s team which won the Manning Cup and shared the Olivier Shield with Cornwall College.
The St George’s squad also included star players Trevor Appleton, Winston ‘Dynamite’ Lyn and Dennis Barnett.
He also played Division One football for St George’s Old Boys and went on to represent Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean Games when the National Stadium opened in 1962.
Also a talented cricketer, Chevannes wore his ‘whites’ for St George’s in the Sunlight Cup and St George’s Old Boys in the Senior Cup. He was also a member of the Kingston Cricket Club.
