Circus Circle on track to clinch title
Leaders Circus Circle Hockey Club (28 points), the most attacking team in the JNBS National Hockey League, will try to secure the title tomorrow afternoon when they take on fifth-placed Munro College Old Boys (20 points) at 2:00 at the Mona astroturf.
Kemar Mitchell (11 goals), Gerald Richards (eight goals), Charles Burton (six goals), and Sherman Brown (five goals), along with captain Kishawn Whyte and the experienced Aubyn Ferguson (four goals apiece) will go all out to ensure that Circus Circle book their four consecutive win and second victory against Munro College Old Boys this season.
Second-placed Jamaica Defence Force (26 points) tackle defending champions and fourth-placed Sharpes Rebels (21 points) tomorrow at 3:00 pm with the military men hoping that the leaders Circus Circle stumble.
JDF will look to joint leading scorer Jerome Davis (12 goals), Marlon Martin (five goals), Evon Powell (three goals), Andrew Fletcher (three goals), and Marlon Rowe (three goals) to take the fight to Sharpes, whose Giovanni Gordon (nine goals), Kimani Airey (five goals) and Oshane Thomas (five goals) have led their attack.
Before that, however, third-placed Raiders United (24 points) will meet cellar team Explorers (two points) this afternoon at 3:30.
Raiders, spearheaded by joint leading scorer Nicholas Beach (12 goals), muffed their chances of a title bid when Munro College Old Boys pinched them 1-0 last Sunday.
Meanwhile in women’s action today, Sharpes Rebels (seven points) face St Andrew HC (six points) at 2:00, and Excelsior (one point) meet leaders Tropics (nine points) at 5:00.
