BARCELONA, Spain — JAMAICAN team officials in Barcelona have rubbished reports circulating that 100m sprinter Jazeel Murphy had fainted between the semi-finals and final of the men’s 100m on Wednesday night at the Olympic stadium complex but was still allowed to compete.

When contacted today, team physician Dr Lincoln Cox, head coach Michael Dyke and assistant manager Neville Myton all denied the rumours.

“This is the first we are hearing about this,” said Cox. 

Murphy had run a personal best 10.25 seconds to qualify for the final of the 100m where he placed fifth in 10.29 seconds.

A number of athletes have complained of dizziness, including 400m hurdler Javarn Gallimore who recovered well enough to run a World Junior Leading 50.45 seconds in the semi-finals today.

Middle distance runner Simoya Campbell had to be rushed to an area hospital on Wednesday after she collapsed on the team bus on the way to taking part in the semi-finals of the 800m, but was given a clean bill of health after a series of medical tests showed nothing clinically or physically wrong with her.

Additionally a few athletes and official have complained of having flu like symptoms.
